    Complex Centers of Polynomial Differential Equations

    We present some results on the existence and nonexistence of centers for polynomial first order ordinary differential equations with complex coefficients. In particular, we show that binomial differential equations without linear terms do not complex centers. Classes of polynomial differential equations, with more than two terms, are presented that do not have complex centers. We also study the relation between complex centers and the Pugh problem. An algorithm is described to solve the Pugh problem for equations without complex centers. The method of proof involves phase plane analysis of the polar equations an a local study of periodic solutions.Comment: 18 page

    Web based learning on KBSM chemical formulae incorporating selected multiple intelligences

    Vision 2020 aspires our nation to establish a progressive and resourceful society that is able to contribute to the scientific and technological civilisation of the future. One of the strategies to achieve this aspiration would be through the system of education whereby web based learning would be a good platform to begin with. The aim of this project is to develop a website for KBSM Chemistry Form Four for the subtopic Chemical Formulae, which is under the topic Chemical Formulae and Equations, Chapter 3. The aim of this website is to provide a web based learning platform for students to learn Chemical Formulae. The theory of Multiple Intelligences has been incorporated in the development of this website. However, only four multiple intelligences are selected in delivering the learning contents. The four intelligences selected are Verbal Linguistics, Logical Mathematical, Visual Spatial and Interpersonal. The Hannafin & Peck Model was adapted throughout the development process, which includes Needs Assessment, Design and Development/ Implementation Phase. Evaluation was carried out simultaneously during all three phases of development. The primary software used in developing this website is Microsoft Office Frontpage. Integration of multimedia elements such as graphics, video and animation are used to enhance the process of learning. It is hoped that this website would benefit students with the selected four intelligences at an optimum level in learning Chemical Formulae

    Dengan peningkatan kadar populasi yang sangat tinggi berbanding keluasan tanah menyebabkan peningkatan permintaan terhadap pemilikan rumah adalah lebih tinggi berbanding jumlah rumah yang dibina. Ini secara langsung menyebabkan harga pemilikan sesebuah kediaman menjadi lebih tinggi ataupun mahal. Atas faktor ingin meningkatkan jumlah pemilikan rumah kediaman, beberapa inisiatif diperkenalkan oleh pihak kerajaan mahupun syarikat pembinaan perumahan di Malaysia. Antara inisiatif tersebut termasuklah pembinaan rumah kediaman bersaiz kecil (kos rendah) berbanding saiz kediaman sebelumnya. Sebagai contoh, saiz purata kediaman bagi sebuah pangsapuri yang mudah didapati di bandar-bandar utama seluruh Malaysia adalah 875 kaki persegi, dimana kebiasanya kediaman jenis ini adalah bersaiz 550 ke 1200 kaki persegi (Uittenbroek, 2016)

    Exploring the usage of a video application tool: Experiences in film studies

    This paper explores our experiences in deploying a video application tool in film studies, and its evaluation in terms of realistic contextual end-users who have real tasks to perform in a real environment. We demonstrate our experiences and core lesson learnt in deploying our novel movie browser application with undergraduate and graduate students completing a Film Studies course in Dublin City University over a semester. We developed a system called MOVIEBROWSER2 that has two types of browsing modes: Advanced and Basic. In general, students found that the features we provided were beneficial for their studies. Some issues or mismatches arose during the trial. A ‘wish-list’ was drawn up that might be useful for the future system developer. The contribution and achievements reported in this article are on the demonstration and exploration of how advances in technology can be deployed, and media can be accessed in the context of a real user community. Exploring the usage indicates a positive acceptance among students, besides lessons learned that are important for further investigation

    Feasibility study on the technical and economic performance grid-connected PV system for designated rooftops in UTHM

    This project is about the feasibility study on the technical and economic performance grid-connected photovoltaic (PV) system for designated rooftops in UTHM. Analysis of electricity consumption data and electricity bill data of UTHM campus show that the monthly electricity usage in UTHM campus is very high and expensive. The main purpose of this project is to reduce the annual electricity consumption and electricity bill of UTHM with Net Energy Metering (NEM) scheme. Therefore, a grid-connected PV system is designed at Dewan Sultan Ibrahim (DSI), Tunku Tun Aminah Library (TTAL), Fakulti Kejuruteraan Awam dan Alam Bina (FKAAS) and F2 buildings using three types of PV modules which are mono-crystalline silicon, poly-crystalline silicon and Cadmium Telluride (CdTe). The technical of these three PV modules are modeled, simulated and estimated using Helioscope software with the capacity of 2,166.40 kWp, 2,046.20 kWp and 1,845 kWp with the total rooftop area of 190,302.9 ftÂČ. Economic analysis is conducted on the chosen three installed PV modules using RETScreen software. The performance analysis showed that mono-crystalline silicon, poly-crystalline silicon and thin film (CdTe) systems are exported 2,332,327.40 kWh, 2,182,727.90 kWh and 2,066,755.40 kWh respectively to the grid annually. Technically, the mono-Si system has emerged as the best PV module in terms of performance ratio which 74.03% and followed closely by poly-si and CdTe by 73.73% and 73.70%. In economic aspect, mono-si monopolized in all aspects compared to the other two systems which 2,332,327.40 kWh of Net PV generated energy, 4.4% CO₂ reduction, 9.3 years of payback period considering 21 years of the contractual period and RM 4,932,274.58 for 11.7 years after payback period. As a result, the mono-Si is the best PV module and the UTHM campus annual electricity bill have reduced by 3.6% which is about RM 421,561.93 per year

Peningkatan populasi ini meningkatkan permintaan dan bekalan terhadap keperluan asasi seperti makanan, pakaian, peluang pekerjaan dan juga ruang kediaman. Ini turut mempengaruhi reka bentuk dan saiz kediaman bagi menempatkan kesemua rakyat Malaysia dan juga pekerja asing yang berkerja di negara ini. Menurut Harian Metro Online, tanah yang semakin berkurangan menyebabkan unit kediaman sekarang banyak dibina dengan keluasan yang terhad antara 650 hingga 800 kaki persegi (Satibi, 2018). Justeru, pemilihan perabot memainkan peranan penting dalam usaha untuk menampakkan kediaman lebih luas dan selesa (Ismail, 2020)
